After many delays is appointmented the last date of Trump Plaza implosion. The event that should take place this week is very important for Atlantic City which was a part of the landscape for decades.

Casino was opened in May, 1984. It was only the tenth casino in the city, only after seven years of gamling games legalisation in 1977.

Then Donald Trump was at the beginning of his career of casino magnate and Trump Plaza was his first attempt to come into the casino industry.

During the process of anticipatory approval in 1981, Trump claimed to Star-Ledger that his resort will be ahead the future of Atlantic City.

The hotel is a 39 level building with a casino with an area of 60000 square foot and more than 600 hotel rooms. In the 80s it was the bigger gamling room in the city.

At the beginning it didn’t go so well for Trump Plaza. It was opened with defective arcade machines, and the broken fire alarm system was a reason for the trauma of two women. Everything changed later, when Trump continued to build his empire.

The peak was attained in 1996 when the Trump casino empire gave 6100 working places only in Plaza.

Regarding the development, in 1998 Trump said: “I made Atlantic City a really good place, and now it is a place where people want to come and invest”.

However not everyone agreed with his words. The senator Jim Wheelan who was the mayor of the city in the 90s, during Trump’s first presidential campaign said: “The vision of the fact that exactly he in some way is responsible for the Atlantic City success is wrong. He doesn’t take responsibility for any issues that we have at the moment as well.”

Plaza was closed in 2014. The casino working was also stopped in September of the same year, more than thousand of workers lost their jobs, and this place became the fourth casino closed that year.

The boulding sat empty for years and was fully dismissed by 2016 when the ownership of Trump Entertainment Resorts was given to Icahn Enterprises.

The plans of implosion appeared in 2017 when the hotel got empty during the auction.

After years of uncertainty about Trump Plaza’s future, the mayor Marty Small set a task before his administration to destroy Trump’s building and called it a “disgrace” for Atlantic City.

Last summer Small announced that Trump Plaza will be destroyed by the end of 2021. After the delays this week will mark the end of the Atlantic City epoch.

It is still unclear what will be with the place after the building implosion and place cleaning. Last year the mayor Small shared his plans about building a family entertainment center as there are not enough of them in the city.
