Denmark is a Scandinavian state where during decades the government monopoly on arcade gaming and gambling business dealing still remains in place. But recently the situation cardinally changed, the Gambling Act was introduced – it is more fair in relation to gambling operators who wanted to open a licensed casino or bookmaker on the country’s territory. Several companies are working with licensing. But all these companies are accountable to the Gaming Authority – an organisation established by the state which works under the aegis of the Ministry of State Taxation. In this way, this organisation not only tracks the work of licensed gambling companies, but is also providing governing documents and licenses. Besides this, the payment for passing the licensing procedure is transferring on the regulator`s accounts.

If you are going to base a licensed casino in Denmark, then take into consideration the fact that the regulator requires all operators obligatory to fulfil all the demands. So that is why the local market is considered one of the best in Europe, because it is not so easy to get all technical certificates that are necessary for working. And in the case the company can do it, then it shows its high level. In order to obtain the casino license it is necessary to provide 8 different certificates which will be approved by independent centres. Moreover, you should have even the ISO 27001.

What is necessary for license arrangement for a gambling club or bookmaker

Now only two permissions for working in the gamling sphere are granted: the state licence for bookmakers and online casinos. Regarding bookmakers, the obtaining of this permission allows them to render not only online services, but also to open land-based offices and accept bets there. For getting the licence to pursue gambling activity or open an online casino, you will have to pay only 37000 euro. But in the case you want to combine a licensed online casino and bookmaker, then it will be necessary to pay a little higher amount – 52000 euro. It is not much at all, but these amounts can be reduced. For instance, if the gross gambling income of your institution is more than one million Danish Krone (approximately 135000 euro), then the licence will cost only 7.3 thousands euro.

What requirements are placed for licence applicants

Then, the owner of the company is obliged:

• To reach the age of majority (the age of majority in Denmark is from 21 years);
• To not have tutors;
• To not have criminal records for financial malpractice and that sort of crime;
•  Also all shareholders and company`s members of the equation who can cast a shadow on the qualifier`s honesty must not have a criminal history;
• The company must not have any debts;
• To live on the territory of Denmark. This point can be missed, it is enough to choose a Danish executive. For example, it can be a local legal entity.

It should also be taken into consideration that the licensed online casino should be better registered in Denmark. But it is also allowed the registration on the territory of member States of the European Union. Of course, if the operator is choosing a local executive, then all the requirements provided above apply to him as well. In addition, the company that is going to open an institution in the country must convince the regulator that it qualifies enough, has the necessary finance reserve in order to run an online casino or bookmaker. The regulator is responsible for the compliance assessment of the declarant. He studies provided technical and financial documents, and  the more documents will be provided, the higher is the chance to get a licence.

Based on the results of the study of provided documents, the supervision body can refuse in getting the state licence, and also can grant the licence: full or conditional. In the case the regulator is unacceptable with the quality of provided documents, he gives the company a chance to fix it and provide necessary papers. If on the second time its quality is far from perfect – it would be refused in licensing. The average time of obtaining the licence in the country is 2-6 months.

Technical requirements

 Due to the fact that all gambling businesses in the country are nationalized, there are some primary requirements to the platform of bookmakers and online casinos. And in the case an foreign operator who wants to get a local jurisdiction, comes to the market, then he must meet all these requirements.

The requirements are following:

•   The casino or bookmaker website must be localized. In other words, on the portal in the list of languages must be available the Danish language. This is an obligatory condition.
• The Danish Krone must be also available as a currency for playing.
• The support service must be accessible in Danish language.
• Among the payment and withdrawal methods must be presented the payment systems that work exceptionally in Denmark.

Also do not forget that foreign companies who received the local licence are liable to a higher tax, than the local operators. According to the statistic, approximative 20% of the annual income of foreign operators are invested on taxes paying.
